How to set the target certification level for your learner?
Setting the target certification level for your learner helps tailor the test in a more personalized and relevant way, in order to better assess whether the training objectives have been achieved.
To set the target level at the end of the training, follow these steps:
- Go to the Tracking tab in your partner area.
- Click on the registration of the learner concerned.
- Select the target level from the drop down list.
- Click Save.
You can edit this information at any time up to one hour before the test, and as many times as needed.

🟦 Note: This step is optional.
If you do not set the target level, the learner will be able to choose it from their personal space. The level they select will then be used automatically for their test.
However, you still keep control from your side. You can change the level indicated by the learner at any time from your partner area. In that case, the learner will automatically receive an email notification about the change.
Why set the target level?
Setting the target level allows the examiner to:
- Focus the evaluation on the expected level (for example B1, B2, etc.);
- Align comments and assessment criteria with the level that has been set.
Important information about the target level
The target level also acts as a maximum reference for the certification result.
A candidate cannot obtain a level higher than the one they are targeting.
For example, if a candidate declares that they are aiming for B1, their final result will be limited to B1.
To avoid any misunderstanding, we recommend that you:
- check that the target level is consistent with the objectives announced in your training program;
- align this level with what your trainers consider realistic at the end of the course;
- remind, if needed, that a candidate who does not want to limit themselves can select the highest level available.
Whether the target level is set by you or by the learner, it is used as the main reference for both the evaluation and the final result.
