Does LILATE offer assessments for beginner levels?
Yes, LILATE does offer assessments tailored for beginners. It's important to understand that there isn't a specific version of LILATE for beginners; it's a standardized test for all candidates. However, the questions are designed to adapt to each candidate's level.
Even though a beginner will be asked the same types of questions as someone with a more advanced level, the examiner will adjust the approach based on the candidate's comprehension ability. For all languages, except sign language, a B1 level is required to demonstrate the ability to work in that language. If a candidate reaches an A1 or A2 level, they will receive a level attestation rather than a competency certificate.
During the test, if a candidate has difficulty understanding, the examiner can adapt the questions and materials. To further reassure you, when booking the test, we ask for your approximate level (beginner, intermediate, advanced). If you indicate that you're a beginner, you'll be assessed by someone who speaks your native language, facilitating communication, especially if you're at a very basic level.
In summary
- A candidate can obtain an attestation for a level below B1. In such cases, the document will state the candidate’s language skills and level, but it will not be a certification.
- For candidates with a B1 to C2 level, LILATE certifies that the candidate is able to work in this language.
